Destroying the fat from within the chin.

Kybella (keoxycholic acid) is a manmade form of a substance your body makes that helps to absorb fats. Deoxycholic acid works by destroying fat cells where it is injected into the body.

Kybella is identical to the deoxycholic acid that is produced in the body. Deoxycholic acid produced in the body helps the body absorb fats. Kybella is a cytolytic drug, which when injected into tissue physically destroys the cell membrane. When properly injected into submental fat, the drug destroys the fat cells.

Kybella is administered as an injection into the fat tissue in the submental area. Patients may receive up to 50 injections in a single treatment, with up to six single treatments administered no less than one month apart.

Is Kybella right for me?

Only you and Dr. Park can can decide if Kybella is right for you. If you are bothered by submental fullness or double chin, ask your doctor about Kybella.

Will I experience any side effects?

Most common side effects include swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness and areas of hardness around the treatment area. This can also include serious side effects such as trouble swallowing and nerve injury in the jaw that can cause uneven smile or facial muscle weakness. Consult with your healthcare provider for more information if it is right for you or not.

How many treatments will I need?

You and Dr. Park will discuss the treatment plan regarding to the amount of treatments you need depending on your desired chin profile. Many patients experience visible results in 2 to 4 treatment sessions. During these sessions, Kybella will be administered into the fat under your chin with multiple injections. Up to 6 treatment sessions may be administered spaced no less than one month apart.

How long will the results last?

When injected into the fat under your chin, Kybella causes the destruction of the fat cells. Once they are destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. After the aesthetic response is achieved, there is no need for another treatment.
